I would run for U.S. President if law were changed: Schwarzenegger

Schwarzenegger has admitted that he would run for U.S. President if the law was changed to allow foreign-born candidates to stand. The bodybuilder-turned-actor-turned-politician was born in Austria and the U.S. Constitution prevents foreign citizens from holding the nation’s top job. When asked if he would make a run for the White House if the law were changed, Schwarzenegger said: “Without any doubt”.However, the change would be a long, tough road, as Constitutional amendments must be approved by a two-thirds majority of the House of Representatives and Senate, plus ratified by three-quarters of state legislatures.Schwarzenegger’s spokesman Aaron McLear said the governor does not think that will happen. The governor also declared the new Arizona law cracking down on illegal immigrants “a mess” and something he “would never do”.“First of all, let me just say that I, as governor here, I would never do that in California,” he said.Schwarzenegger said the law is a result of “a shortcoming of the federal government” to act on immigration reform.
