CM assures info centre for Tangkhul students in Imphal

 

Imphal, October 20: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today assured that an information centre for Tangkhul students studying in Imphal will be set up by the government at an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh.Addressing as chief guest of the opening function of the XVIIth Annual Sports Meet cum Conference of the Tangkhul Katamnao Long at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today, the Chief Minister estimated 10,000 Tangkhul students are at present studying in various institutions in Imphal.
For easy access to job vacancies and information needed by the students, an information centre for them with the latest sophisticated high-tech standards is being planned to be opened by the government in response to the representation of the students in this regard. Government has estimated Rs 20 lakh to set up the centre and to procure land at an appropriate place, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibobi advised the students to preserve the old aged traditional culture of their respective communities saying that “It is the bounden duty of the students to preserve the culture and tradition of their respective communities.
Saying that the future of the state or country lies in the hands of the students, Chief Minister appealed to the students to adopt a proper behaviour and to work hard to become worthy pillars of the future nation.The CM said that development of the society lies in the hand of today’s students.. They should leave mean minded ideology and work for the harmonic living with a broad mind of peaceful co-existence, he advised he advised.
Recalling Mary Kom’s achievement in the world of sports, he said that she has brought many laurels for the state. Like her, all students and young people should work hard in their respective fields. Sports minister, N Biren presided the opening function of the four day sports meet cum conference for the Tangkhul students to be hald atImphal, Khuman Lampak Sport Complex. General Secretary Victor Keishing of Manipur Youth Congress Committee and Principal Secretary R Muivah attended as guests of honour.
Biren reminded the achievements of Manipur players in the recently concluded Common Wealth Game, 2010 in New Delhi and termed their performances were excellent. State players’ performances will be improved further and they shall do better to bring furhter laurels to the state and the country.
YAS will extend all assistance and cooperation to the sportspersons of the state, he assured.
The XVIIth Annual Sports Meet cum Conference of the Tangkhul Katamnao Long, which began today, will be concluded on October 23. During the four day gathering, Tangkhul students will compete at various sports disciplines during the day time. Interaction and cultural and exchange of ideas among the participating students will be a main priority the four day event.
