AP Singh appointed new CBI director

 

New Delhi, Nov 30 (ANI): Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer A.P Singh was on Tuesday appointed the new Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of two years.
 
Singh takes over from Ashwini Kumar.
 
The Appointments'' Committee of the Union Cabinet headed by the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, cleared the name of Singh, a 1974 batch IPS officer from Jharkhand cadre.
 
Prior to his appointment, Singh, 58, was serving as Special Director in the agency.
 
He has also held the post of Additional Director General in the Border Security Force (BSF) and is a recipient of the Indian Police Medal and the President''s Police Medal.
 
Ashwani Kumar was the CBI Director from August 2, 2008 to November 30, 2010.
