Teens’ Facebook walls may reveal their sexual intentions

Washington, May 1 (ANI): Display of sexual references on teens’ Facebook profiles is associated with their intention to initiate intercourse, claims a new study.he study, led by Megan A. Moreno, MD, MPH, MSEd, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Dimitri A. Christakis, MD, MPH, of Seattle Children’s Research Institute, has been presented at the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) annual meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.“Parents and physicians are often seeking clues for when it’s time to have ‘the talk’ about sex with a teenager,” Dr. Moreno said. “Our study suggests that if sexual content is noted on a teen’s social networking site profile, it’s definitely time for that talk.”Dr. Moreno’s team previously found that 54 percent of MySpace profiles contained high-risk behavior information, with 24 percent referencing sexual behavior (”Display of Health Risk Behaviors on MySpace by Adolescents,” published in January 2009 in Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine). The researchers hypothesized that these displays may represent involvement in risk behaviors, consideration of risk behaviors or just adolescent grandstanding. In the current study, researchers investigated what sexual displays on social networking sites represent in the offline world. They identified publicly available Facebook profiles of college freshmen, 85 of whom completed a survey measuring sexual experiences, risky sexual behavior, and for those not yet sexually active, sexual intention.Researchers found a strong association between display of sexual references on Facebook and self-reported intention to initiate sexual intercourse. The authors concluded that social networking sites present innovative opportunities for clinicians, educators and parents to identify adolescents who may benefit from targeted education regarding safe sex practices prior to sexual initiation. The sample was composed of 15,638 adults aged 65 and older, including 3,927 who were between 90 and 99 and 2,794 who were 100 or older, reports The Daily Express.Dr Danan Gu, of Portland State University in Oregon, said: “About 65 per cent of the sample overall reported that their sleep quality was good or very good, and the weighted average daily sleep time was about seven-and- a-half hours including naps.“Surprisingly, the oldest adults aged 100 and above were 70 per cent more likely to report good sleep quality than younger participants aged 65 to 79.“Participants who were 100 years of age and older were less likely to sleep for five or fewer hours a day but they were almost three times more likely to sleep for 10 hours or more.“Men were 23 per cent more likely than women to report sleeping well.”When humans sleep, their cells regenerate and they also remove toxins and activate immune system cells. The research has been published in the May issue of the journal Sleep. I would run for U.S. President if law were changed: Schwarzenegger

Schwarzenegger has admitted that he would run for U.S. President if the law was changed to allow foreign-born candidates to stand. The bodybuilder-turned-actor-turned-politician was born in Austria and the U.S. Constitution prevents foreign citizens from holding the nation’s top job. When asked if he would make a run for the White House if the law were changed, Schwarzenegger said: “Without any doubt”.However, the change would be a long, tough road, as Constitutional amendments must be approved by a two-thirds majority of the House of Representatives and Senate, plus ratified by three-quarters of state legislatures.Schwarzenegger’s spokesman Aaron McLear said the governor does not think that will happen. The governor also declared the new Arizona law cracking down on illegal immigrants “a mess” and something he “would never do”.“First of all, let me just say that I, as governor here, I would never do that in California,” he said.Schwarzenegger said the law is a result of “a shortcoming of the federal government” to act on immigration reform.
