Army refutes NSCN (IM) allegations as baseless

Kohima, Aug 18 : The allegation made by NSCN (IM) that Assam Rifles is responsible for the killing of ‘SS Maj’ Ningtam is completely baseless, false and a figment of imagination, stated a press note issued by LT. Col Nirupam Bhargava PRO Defence.

“It is abundantly clear that at the time of the incident, the post commander of Jalukie was interacting with the Gaon Burahs and other villagers with regard to construction of `Sadhbhavna` projects in their villages. Therefore, making wild allegations against the security forces is a desperate attempt by NSCN (IM) to look for ways and means to abrogate the Cease Fire”, the press note countered.
Pointing out that the Security Forces in the State, as anywhere else, are deeply committed to ensure that an era of peace, prosperity and harmony prevails, where all men and women, young and old, are able to perform their daily chores in a completely safe environment, the press note stated that any diabolical interference to disrupt normalcy by any of the criminals or unlawful elements will tantamount to violation of the ground rules of the Cease Fire and will be dealt with an iron hand by the Security Forces.

“The UG factions are actively targeting each other’s cadres regularly. This has resulted in unfortunate shedding of blood of the Naga people. The security forces have been trying to keep them apart and have been successful to a great extent. It is while performing this difficult task of maintaining peace that the two groups have to retreat or be told to leave a particular area”. The recent action of security forces in eviction of the unauthorized NSCN (IM) camp at Chobama as also eviction of NSCN (IM) concentrations around Nihokhu seem to be the driving force behind this baseless and unsubstantiated allegation.

The Army reiterated that all actions of the AR are strictly in accordance with the law of the land and the laid down CFGRs. AR stands firmly by their commitment of assisting the State govt in maintaining peace and tranquility in Nagaland, and keeping the criminals and unlawful elements at bay in concert with the State police and other security forces. Any attempt to disturb the peace and violate CFGRs by any faction will be dealt with firmly.
