ound two of the latest war within the BJP is on and it looks like Vasundhara Raje is finally giving in to President Rajnath's ouster demand.
After her open defiance, BJP leader Vasundhara Raje on Sunday (August 16) summoned all supporting MLAs to her house to decide on the final strategy. The meeting was scheduled to begin at 11am.
Raje's decision most likely depends on the number of party MLAs that turn up in her favour defying the central leadership's stand.
Raje has invited only the 57 MLAs who went to New Delhi on Saturday to present a show of strength at the BJP headquarters.
Raje will be mulling over several possible scenarios; She could either choose to follow party order and step down from her post, in which case she could then settle for a central leadership role. Raje could choose to continue to be defiant, and the third or final option is to quit the BJP altogether and float her own political outfit.
The BJP state unit yesterday said party chief Rajnath Singh had conveyed personally asked Raje to step down.
Earlier, Raje during an informal chat with the media said that she had not received any communique from the leadership to this effect and any talk over the issue was unnecessary.
The former Rajasthan chief minister also said that the debacle the BJP suffered was not only in Rajasthan but all over the country and responsibility should be fixed for it from top to bottom in the leadership ladder.
The BJP central leadership holds Raje responsible for the party's loss in assembly elections last year and Lok Sabha polls this year.
The number of BJP MPs from Rajasthan plummeted to four from 23, while in the assembly the number dropped to 78 from 120.
Raje's supporters claim to have 62 of the 78 BJP MLAs on their side. In the 200-member assembly, Congress has a strength of 97 MLAs.
Meanwhile in the capital, BJP President Rajnath Singh is going all out to garner support from senior BJP leaders.
Rajnath is also pursuing the RSS' support. He is also expected to try and wean away as many of Raje's loyalists to pave way for her ouster.
