Maharashtra Day Celebrations Today

MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- May 1 is celebrated in Maharashtra as Maharashtra day and this year the day will mark the golden jubilee of the celebration. Grand plans have been set to commemorate the occasion. A spectacular light and sound show will be held and it will be succeeded by a fireworks at the Marine Drive. Apart from the government of Maharashtra, a number of political parties have planned several shows and events to celebrate the day in their own style.At the beginning of the day Ashok Chavan, the C.M. of Maharashtra will offer tributes with flower bouquets to the martyrs associated with Samyukta Maharashtra Movement. He will be accompanied by governor K. Sankaranarayanan, deputy Chhagan Bhujbal and some other top level officials. The tricolor will be unfurled by the governor in the evening. After that the Governor will inaugurate a special exhibition arranged by the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations. This exhibition has the theme of Maharashtra’s Progress during the last 50 years. The venue is Shivaji Park.After the inauguration of the Shivaji park exhibition, the governor will attend an event organized by Mumbai’s Mayor Shraddha Jadhav. To remember the glorious social, cultural and historical heritage of Maharashtra a cultural program named Swarna Maharashtra will take place at night at Girgaum Chowpatty. Any occasion to celebrate anything related to Maharashtra cannot be missed by parties like Shiv Sena and BJP. A function will be arranged by Shiv Sena at Bandra. Shiv Sena Supremo Bal Thackeray is likely to be present at the venue. It will also have Lata Mangeshkar performing live in the Maharashtra Day ceremony.
