Lifter Rao wins India's first gold in Asiad 2010

 

New Delhi: India clinched their first gold at the Asian Games when Srinivasa Rao Balluri won the men's 56 kg weightlifting event on the first day of competition in Guangzhou.
While Balluri won the gold, his compatriot Sukhen Dey won the silver in the same event.
This was after India opened its Asian Games medal account expectedly through shooting with the trio of Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput clinching the silver in the 10m air rifle team event.Narang, Bindra and Rajput combined for a score of 1783, a point adrift of gold medal winning Chinese team comprising Jikang Yu, Qinan Zhu and Yifei Cao.
While Narang shot a score 597, Bindra and Rajput managed identical tallies of 593.
