New Delhi, Jan. 14 (ANI): Manohar Lal Sharma, the lawyer of one of the accused charged with the Delhi gang rape case, on Monday alleged that his client was being tortured in police custody.
The six suspects held in connection with the gang rape of the 23-year-old student on a moving bus, were charged with murder following her death.
Manohar Lal Sharma, who is defending Mukesh, brother of the main accused Ram Singh, said that he would base his case on police brutality meted out to his client.
"He was under torture regularly. He was also the victim of the unnatural sex and if this type of the cruelty will be done, any person will say yes (to) what you are saying, he will speak the same language," said Sharma.
"They (police) have nothing in their hand except the confession, and confession is the outcome of the torture. Anybody, any civilized person will not like that torture should be used for getting the statement, and on the basis of this statement you can''t hang anybody," he added.
The defence lawyers scrutinized the documents filed with the chargesheet by the Delhi Police in the case.
Lawyer V. K. Anand is representing the main accused Ram Singh, M. L. Sharma is defending Mukesh, A. P. Singh is representing Akshay alias Thakur and Vinay Sharma, while the fifth accused Pawan Gupta will be represented by counsel Vivek Sharma.
The sixth accused is a juvenile and his case is being heard by a Juvenile Justice Board.
