Manipur Governor Gurbachan Jagat and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh have discussed ways to find a solution to the problem arising out of boycott of classes by three students' bodies for more than three months, officials said on Friday.
Jagat called the Chief Minister at Raj Bhavan last evening and wanted to know what steps had been taken to open educational institutions - closed since September 9 by All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Manipur Students' Federation (MSF) and Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA).
The details of the discussions between the two were not immediately available but the Governor was understood to have expressed 'serious concern' over closure of the educational institutions for more than three months, they said.
Supporting the demands of the major social organisation, Apunba Lup (AL), the AMSU, MSF and KSA had said they would continue to boycott classes till there was a settlement between the state government and the AL.
The main demands of the AL, which has been agitating for four months now against the killing of a youth by police commandos in an alleged encounter on July 23 last, include resignation of the Chief Minister, dismissal of commandos involved in the incident and criminal action against them, and action against senior police officials responsible for deployment of commandos.
